What the score means in meat alternatives
How is the score calculated?
Every product starts at 100 and loses points for the ingredients, processing and packaging actually on its label â up to 52 points for a single worst-tier ingredient near the top of the list, 10 for NOVA 4 ultra-processing, 8 for the riskiest food-contact packaging (60 when the package sheds into the food). Certified organic adds 5, and label claims like grass-fed (+3) or bioengineered (â10) move it too. Read the full methodology.
What counts as a good score?
70 and up is Clean, 41â69 is Okay, 40 and under is Avoid. The colour on every tile above is that band, so a page of green is a shelf worth shopping.
