Terms of Service

By using Tallow, you agree to these terms. They cover what Tallow does, what it does not do, and what we both agree on.
Not medical advice
Tallow scores foods using public data — NOVA classification, ingredient research, and packaging material — and scores restaurants using ratings submitted by other users. These are general nutritional indicators and community opinion, not a diagnosis or a treatment plan. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional before making decisions about your diet, especially if you have allergies, dietary restrictions, or a medical condition.
Accuracy
- Product data comes from Open Food Facts, from photos and details contributed by other users, and from AI enrichment. We do our best to surface accurate, current information, but we cannot guarantee that every score or ingredient list is right.
- Restaurant scores are built from ratings submitted by other users, not from testing we perform. Ratings are moderated before they count, but they remain the opinions and observations of the people who wrote them.
- If you believe a product or restaurant is wrong, email support@tallow.app and we will review it.
Acceptable use
- Don’t try to break, scrape, or abuse the service.
- Don’t use Tallow to make safety-critical decisions in place of a doctor, dietitian, or allergy specialist.
Your content
The barcodes you scan and products you save belong to you. You can delete your account and all associated data from Settings → Delete account at any time.
When you post a restaurant rating or review, upload an evidence photo, or contribute a product photo, you keep ownership of it and you grant us permission to display it inside Tallow — publicly, next to the username you chose, and as part of the community score for that place or product. Only post content you have the right to share, and keep it honest: we may remove ratings, reviews, or photos that are spam, off-topic, abusive, or knowingly false, and repeat abuse can cost you your account. Product photos serving as a barcode’s display image are stored against the product rather than your identity, so they may remain after you delete your account.
Subscriptions
Tallow is free to download, and scanning a product and seeing its score is free. Tallow Premium is an auto-renewing subscription that unlocks the full ingredient breakdown, Healthier Swaps, nutrition facts, and search. Where a free trial is offered, it converts to a paid subscription at the end of the trial unless you cancel beforehand. Billing, renewals, cancellations, and refunds are handled by the store you bought through — not by us — so cancel through that store:
- Apple App Store(iPhone and iPad) — open the App Store app and go to your Apple ID → Subscriptions, or iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Refunds are requested from Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
- Google Play(Android) — open the Google Play Store app and head to Menu → Payments & subscriptions. Refunds are requested from Google Play.
Settings → Subscription inside the app opens the right store’s subscription page for you. Canceling stops the next renewal; you keep Premium until the end of the period you already paid for. Because the store holds the payment relationship, we cannot bill you, cancel for you, or issue a refund ourselves — email support@tallow.app if something looks wrong and we will help you sort it out with the store. Prices may change; we will tell you before a change affects your renewal.
If we have given you Premium for free, none of the billing terms above apply: there is no store subscription behind it, nothing renews, and there is nothing to cancel or refund.
Service availability
Tallow is provided “as is.” We can change or remove features, and the service may be temporarily unavailable. We will give reasonable notice for planned outages.
Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Tallow and its operators are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app — including but not limited to dietary decisions made based on app data.
