Common questions

Is NOW Foods Cocoa Butter Lotion healthy?

NOW Foods Cocoa Butter Lotion scores 15/100 on Tallow — our avoid band. That number comes from what is on the label: the ingredients, how processed it is, and what it is packaged in. It is not a verdict on your diet — Tallow does not weigh calories, portion size or how often you eat it, so a high score means the ingredients are clean, not that the food is unlimited.

What is in NOW Foods Cocoa Butter Lotion?

NOW Foods Cocoa Butter Lotion lists 22 ingredients, starting with Aqua (Hungarian Thermal Water), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice Concentrate, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter, Cetearyl Alcohol and Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil. Ingredients are listed in descending order by weight, so the first few make up most of what you are eating.

Does NOW Foods Cocoa Butter Lotion contain seed oils?

No. Nothing in NOW Foods Cocoa Butter Lotion’s ingredient list matches a seed oil — canola, soybean, corn, cottonseed, grapeseed, sunflower, safflower, rice bran or peanut oil, or an unspecified "vegetable oil".

How processed is NOW Foods Cocoa Butter Lotion?

NOW Foods Cocoa Butter Lotion has no NOVA group. Tallow works NOVA out from the ingredient list, and it does not apply to supplements or non-food products; a food whose ingredients are not all classified yet stays unknown instead of being guessed. Either way the processing axis scores it neutrally.

How does NOW Foods Cocoa Butter Lotion compare to other body lotion?

At 15/100 NOW Foods Cocoa Butter Lotion scores worse than most body lotion we have scored. A higher-scoring option in body lotion is Honey Girl Organics The Lotion Extra Sensitive at 100/100.

Is NOW Foods Cocoa Butter Lotion organic?
