Wawa publishes ingredient statements for its whole made-to-order menu, and the problem starts with the bread: the Classic, Shorti and Junior rolls that every hoagie is built on all list soybean oil. 178 of 214 composed dishes carry a seed oil and 74 percent of food entries carry an additive, with Red 40 turning up in 299 of them.
Wawa publishes a genuinely huge ingredient database, 5,673 per-item statements, and it is one of the most complete of any chain looked at so far. Read 22 August 2026. Excluding drinks leaves 1,930 food entries. 738 of those name a seed oil and 1,436 carry an additive, but the honest way to read it is by composed dish: 178 of 214 hoagies, Sizzlis, bowls, wraps and mac and cheeses carry one, and that is 83 percent. The reason is the bread. The Classic Roll, Shorti Roll and Junior Roll all list soybean oil, so every hoagie on the menu starts with it. Soybean oil appears in 452 entries, canola in 271, sunflower in 58. On additives, mono and diglycerides show up in 407 entries, xanthan gum in 392, high fructose corn syrup in 332, Red 40 in 299 and caramel color in 294. The only clean composed items are the bare salads, the soups and the empty bowls.
