What the score is made of

Four categories, weighted. Seed oils count three times as much as plastics or ultra-processing, so a poor seed-oil score pulls the overall number down hardest.

  • Seed oil3× weight0
  • Additives2× weight0
  • Plastics0.5× weight
  • NOVA0.5× weight50

Plastics has no ratings yet and count as 0 toward the overall score — an unproven category isn’t a free pass.

Sheetz's own ingredient database states in words that its fried food is fried in canola and/or soybean oil, and every standard bread on the menu - white sub roll, hamburger roll, slider roll, both hot dog buns, sourdough, flatbread and croissant - lists soybean oil, so a made-to-order sandwich carries seed oil in the bread before anything goes on it. 213 of 257 food entries also carry at least one additive.

Rated from Sheetz's own ingredient database (nutritionix.com/sheetz/ingredient-search/premium, 222,102 bytes, 295 entries, 257 after excluding drink-named rows), read 2026-08-25. Seed oils: 98 of 257 name one outright and that undercounts it, because the fried items say it in words - Chicken Strips, Fryz, Mozzarella Sticks and Mac 'N Cheese Bitez all end with FRIED IN CANOLA &/OR SOYBEAN OIL. Every standard bread lists soybean oil: White Sub Roll- Half, Hamburger Roll, Slider Roll, Hot Dog Bun, 9 inch Hot Dog Bun, Sourdough Bread, Flatbread, Croissant and Maple Flavored Waffle Bread. Mayonnaise is soybean oil. Only the Pretzel Roll (palm oil) and the Pretzel Sub Roll- Half (butter) escape it, so a made-to-order sandwich carries seed oil in the bread before anything goes on it. No swap offered. Additives: 213 of 257.

Common questions

What is in Sheetz's food?

Tallow reviewers check Sheetz on four things: whether it cooks in seed oils, whether the menu carries artificial additives, whether food touches plastic on the way out, and how much of it arrives premade rather than made in the kitchen. The answers to each are scored below.

Does Sheetz use seed oils?

Yes. Sheetz scores 0/100 here — reviewers report heavy seed oil use.

Does Sheetz use artificial additives?

Yes. Sheetz scores 0/100 here — reviewers report a lot of artificial additives.

Is Sheetz healthy?

Not really — Sheetz scores 4/100, a poor score. Tallow rates what a kitchen cooks with, not how many calories are on the plate.

Does Sheetz serve premade or ultra-processed food?

Sometimes. Sheetz scores 50/100 here, so reports are mixed.
