Penn Station fries in a peanut and soybean oil blend, not the pure peanut oil their marketing page advertises, and the butter-flavored oil used on the grill for every sub is soy-based. MSG is in the steak seasoning, and the bread is baked off-site rather than hearth-baked in store as advertised.
Rated 2026-09-02 from Penn Station's own Nutrition FAQ at https://www.penn-station.com/menu_nutrition.php. Seed oil: the fries are NOT pure peanut oil. The FAQ says verbatim "our fresh cut fries are cooked in a peanut oil blend (which includes soy)" and "our peanut oil and soybean oil blend is fully refined". That contradicts their own marketing page, which says only "cholesterol-free peanut oil". Their Premium Butter Flavored Oil goes on the grill before every sub and on the bread, and "contains soy lecithin and hydrolyzed soy protein" - but its base oil is never named, so it is NOT counted here as a proven seed oil. Scored some rather than all on that basis. Additives: MSG confirmed in one item only, "our special proprietary steak seasoning ... contains MSG". Nova: "Any breads offered at our restaurants are not hearth baked" and bread is "made at a kosher plant exclusively for Penn Station", while fries are cut in store and subs grilled to order.
