Artificial additives are just as widespread — artificial flavor, high-fructose corn syrup, potassium sorbate, sodium benzoate, TBHQ, polysorbate 60 and 80, propylene glycol, DATEM, caramel color and Yellow 5, Yellow 6 and Blue 1. The formulations themselves tell the story on freshness: yeast donut concentrates, mold inhibitors and shelf-stable syrups are what you use when food is made elsewhere and finished in the store.
