What the score is made of

Four categories, weighted. Seed oils count three times as much as plastics or ultra-processing, so a poor seed-oil score pulls the overall number down hardest.

Seed oils in most dishes · No artificial additives · Some premade food

Checked against Chipotle's own published "53 Real Ingredients" list, which breaks down every menu item recipe by recipe. Seed oils are hard to dodge on the hot line: the chicken, the white rice, the beans and the fajita veggies all list high-oleic sunflower oil, and canola oil is on the master list too. Guacamole, the fresh salsas, cheese and sour cream are the clean exceptions. The flip side is genuinely strong — all 53 ingredients are recognizable food, with no dyes, no artificial preservatives and no synthetic emulsifiers anywhere on the menu. Proteins, rice, beans, salsas and guac are prepped in the restaurant each day; the tortillas and the base for the chips come from a supplier, so it is not quite all made on site. I did not rate plastic contact — Chipotle does not publish its packaging materials.
