We just added every Seed Oil Free Certified® product to Tallow. Search for a brand or scan a barcode in the app and, if it's carrying the seal, you'll see it flagged right alongside our own scoring — no separate app, no digging through a directory on someone else's website.
Why this seal is different from a label claim
Anyone can print "seed oil free" on a package. The Seed Oil Free Alliance, the group behind the certification, doesn't take a brand's word for it. To earn the seal, a product goes through:
- Lab testing of the added oils and fats themselves, not just a read of the ingredient list
- Supply chain auditing, so the oil that's certified is the oil that's actually going into the product
- Ongoing surveillance, meaning certification isn't a one-time check brands can coast on
The standards were physician-authored, and the Alliance's scientific and medical advisor is Dr. Andrew Weil. Brands like Kettle & Fire and TruBar have already put their products through it — the kind of company that doesn't need a seal to sell, using one anyway because their customers keep asking "prove it."
That's the same instinct Tallow was built on. We already tell you which oils a restaurant fries in and what's actually in your groceries; adding an independently lab-verified certification on top of that just means one more thing you don't have to take on faith.
What the seal actually looks like
Here's an example, from Little Spoon's Super Chicken Dippers: the green teardrop Seed Oil Free Certified® mark sits in the bottom right corner of the package, right next to the USDA inspection stamp.
That's the mark to look for. If you spot it — or if you want to check a product that doesn't have it printed anywhere — that's exactly what Tallow now checks for you.
How to use it
Open Tallow and either:
- Search a brand or product name, or
- Scan the barcode at the shelf
If it's Seed Oil Free Certified, that shows up right in the result. If it's not certified but we've got lab or ingredient data on it, you'll still see our own read on whether it's clean.
We'd been getting the "how do I know a seed-oil-free claim is real" question a lot, especially with every chain and CPG brand suddenly slapping the phrase on packaging this year. Now there's an actual answer: check if it's Seed Oil Free Certified, and check it on Tallow before it's in your cart.
